What to expect in our Sunday morning
worship service:
If you have not worshipped with a church
of Christ (or with this congregation) before, here is some
information to familiarize yourself with our service.
Our style of worship is simple, patterned
after the examples and teachings of the earliest Christians in
the New Testament. It typically lasts from 1hour to 1 hour and
30 minutes. Feel free to sit anywhere, there are no reserved
seats.
If you feel comfortable in doing so,
please fill out a visitors' card and drop it in the offering tray or give
it to one of the members. (We use it for record keeping and to
thank our visitors for coming)
The Singing: You will
notice that our worship in song is without instrumental
accompaniment. We believe that a cappella
congregational singing both enhances our personal involvement in
the worship, and conforms to the New Testament example. (I
Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:18-19; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews
2:12) (a cappella literally means "in the manner of the
church", or "as in the chapel")
The Lord's Supper (Communion): Each Sunday we
observe a memorial known as the Lord's Supper or Communion.
This special meal was instituted by Jesus (Mathew 26:26-28)
before his death on the cross. The unleavened bread and the
"fruit of the vine" symbolize the body and blood of Jesus. This
memorial reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made on our
behalf when he was crucified. We partake of the Lord's Supper
every Sunday. Luke writes in Acts 20:7 that in Troas "upon the
first day of the week... the disciples came together to break
bread..." We reason that the "first day of the week" means the
first day of every week.
The Sermon: The sermon is the time when a
Bible-based message is shared and applied to our lives today.
We hope that you will find it encouraging.
The Invitation: At the close of the sermon ,
all worshippers are invited to respond to the gospel message. A
person may come and request the prayers of the church or a
person or family may wish to identify with the Blanchard Church
family. A person may also want to become a Christian. One
becomes a Christian by expressing their faith through repenting
of his or her sins, confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord, and
being baptized. Baptism is performed through immersion in water
(Acts 8:35-39; Romans 6:3-4;Colossians 2:12) and is for the
forgiveness of one's sins (Acts 2:38). Baptism is the means one
is united with Christ (Galatians 3:27) and through which God
adds a person to His church (Acts 2:41-47).
If you are interested in studying the Bible, or if you have
other questions please feel free to contact us through email or
by calling the church office. You can also find study
information on our website by clicking they "Bible Studies" link
on the left menu.
At the Blanchard Church of Christ you will find people of
great faith who love Jesus and the Bible and we would love for
you to become a part of our family. |
